Eco Aspects

Karen Blixen Camp is an eco friendly luxury camp, committed to protect the beautiful Masai Mara. We strongly believe responsible tourism holds the capacity to protect a natural wildlife area, alleviate poverty through proper conditions and contribute positively to local communities.

Environmental friendly technologies
24 hour electricity is provided by solar panel system

Gas is used for heating up water for outdoor showers. No usage of firewood or charcoal. No deforestation of Mara woodlands

Waste water is led through a zero waste sewage system and mechanical and biological purified. The recycled water is used for watering our bush garden

Organic waste is composted and non-degradable waste delivered back to private companies for further recycling.

Responsible tourism commitments
Protection of Masai Mara through strong involvement in Mara North Conservancy

Conservation of Oloisuk, our private concession area of 900 Hectares

Reforestation with planting of 10.000 indigenous trees every year

Ensuring proper working conditions in accordance with International and Kenyan working laws

Fundraising and corporate social investment for the local community: employment, fair trade and access to safe water facilities

UN partnership with Danida, the Danish International Development Assistance

Providing health care facilities for the local health clinic

Karen Blixen Camp is member of Eco Tourism Kenya and UN Global Compact
