Nature walks
Nature walking is about learning about grasses, plants, shrubs and trees and their importance to herbivores and the indigenous people of the Mara. Our guide teaches you about the different species and how the Maasai have used them for cultural and medical purposes for centuries
On nature walks you come close to the fauna and smaller parts of the Mara savannah. Our Maasai guide invites you for a walk in our bush garden around the camp and explains about the thousands of trees, shrubs, plants and grass species inhabiting the area and how they fit into the Mara bush ecology.
There is a multitude of creepy-crawlies to discover including safari ants, spiders and grasshoppers. To watch the world of the insects and learn more about their survival techniques in a dangerous world full of preying coldblooded lizards and sharp-eyed birds is truly intriguing and fascinating.
We also walk to the tree nursery and our forestry team explains about our ambitions to restore natural habitat areas and to significantly reduce deforestation through sustainably grown woodland areas. If you wish, you are welcome to support us and plant trees for conservation.
This activity is designed for people who want to maximize their time in the bush and learn about the smaller aspects of ecology, especially the diverse array of grasses, trees and scrubs present in the Masai Mara.
